Mrs L. K is a 55-year-old Caucasian female. She is 160 cm in height and weighs 80kg, with a BMI of 31.2 and thus classed clinically obese. She smokes 20 cigarettes per day and regularly drinks over 20 units of alcohol per week. She partakes in minimal exercise. She is currently taking medication for high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, heart palpitations, arthritis, cholesterol and acid reflux. 
Mrs L. K. visited was first diagnosed with the disease after experiencing an urge for frequent urination extreme thirst and a numbness and "tingling" sensations in her hands and feet. Her doctor recommended she test her blood glucose levels using a continuous glucose monitor device, which she undertook over four days, as well as a A1C test. Both tests revealed elevated blood glucose levels (Figure 1). Mrs L. K. was prescribed with metformin. Since her diagnosis, the numbness and tingling sensations have significantly worsened she frequently complains of "not being able to feel her legs".
