Welcome to the “Business Ethics in Action” module. Education in Business Ethics is crucial in providing students with a conceptual ethical framework to apply in business situations. Ethical leadership is discussed at the light of ‘virtue ethics’ and the main virtues of leaders are considered with practical examples being considered. To understand how business ethical decisions impact on the different stakeholders is crucial, therefore these are analysed in detail and evaluated within a framework of human dignity. In particular the role of employees as stakeholders is examined as is the role of customers from the perspective of marketing ethics. The module also examines how
to manage business ethics and the role and limits of corporate social responsibility and environmental ethics.

Learning outcomes to be assessed
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse the context of different sectors in which companies operate and identify the main ethical issues of each particular industry.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the complex philosophical, moral and cultural concepts underpinning business ethics, corporate social responsibility and
sustainability.
3. Apply expertise to problem solving of contemporary ethical challenges and to be able to implement tools such as ethical codes, policies and the design of ethical training programmes.
4. Show evidence of critical understanding of the impact of business ethics on different stakeholders and the implications for corporate governance.
5. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the main virtues of a leader and in particular about the role of prudence in decision-making
