3. Demonstrate an understanding of effective evidence-based information sharing, with women, their families and the wider multi-professional team to facilitate informed choice and consent

Assessment brief including criteria mapped to learning outcomes

You will be required to submit an annotated bibliography giving details of the evidence you have found for your chosen topic. This will be included as an appendix in the summative submission.
This will give you an opportunity for feedback from lecturer and peers to enable you to develop your work further for summative submission.
Your annotated bibliography should record the evidence that you have found to support the topic you have chosen and you will need to record some details about the sources.

Your bibliography will include:

  •   The full reference – UWL Harvard style and in alphabetical order
  • • The details of the method used by the author (what type of evidence is it ie qualitative or quantitative research)
  • • Give details of the author’s main arguments and conclusions
  • • Why you have chosen this source; what makes it relevant/useful

You should expect to present around 4-6 pieces of evidence on your chosen topic.

Some suggested topics are:
• Water birth
• The third stage of labour – physiological and/or active management
• Care in labour
• Positions for labour or birth
• Coping strategies for labour
• Skin to skin contact immediately after birth
• Place of birth

Summative Assessment: Mapped to learning outcome 1/2/3

A poster presentation that presents the evidence around a defined area of care to be agreed with the tutors.
Separate details on poster size will be available on the module site.
Your poster will need to be clear and eye catching and present the evidence that you have found during your search.

• You will need to demonstrate how the evidence was found,
• how it meets the needs of women, infants and families.
