Research Project - Management Assessment Answer

TASK: 1. Introduction: It is not a myth that the earth’s natural resources are slowly depleting, and the world is facing economic, social and environmental challenges. Income inequality, unsustainable consumption, and production mode have all aggravated the design pattern of sustainable development resulting in the uneven pattern of economic and social contour. Eliminating poverty in all forms, protecting the planet and all forms of life, living in harmony of peace and prosperity is the prime goal of sustainable development and can be achieved through the interconnected elements of economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Thus, Sustainable development calls for unified efforts towards building a sustainable and resilient future for people and planet. 1.1 Purpose of the Study Urbanization serves as a model to remove poverty and improve societal developments through innovative ideas and plans. Not only it gives a new dimension of life to the people migrating to urban areas but also elevates the living standard of a commoner. New tools and machinery, quality education, good jobs are the factors associating to urban migration. However, population migration to urban areas not only causes traffic congestion and housing problem but also impact land, water, and air pollution. The persistent urging for health-care, water supply, energy, services, education has been creating havoc for many developing countries. Rapid urbanization with the constant demand for additional resources tends to stifle any local government and would become a serious issue (DES 2013). Population of developing countries tend to depend on the natural resources for economic growth resulting in environmental degradation. The continual exploitation of resources further become a development challenges leading the nation towards deprivation and worsen the living standard of general populace (Bhattacharyya & Palit 2014). Thus, with the advent of reasonable green projects such haphazard has been slowly depleting away. Feasible Green projects in developing nations have been able to reduce drudgery and improve the social infrastructure in rural areas and social-economic condition by generating employment opportunities to local people, enhancing income, empowering women and improving the living standard of people (Bhattacharyya & Palit 2014). It has also been successful in bettering the living standard of people and reducing poverty by fulfilling the needs for energy, clean water, food and hygiene leading the nation a step further towards sustainable development (Hansen & Wethal 2014). Despite the knowledge of positive outcomes, the green project becomes unfeasible in developing countries due to several factors such as lack of adequate finance, poor business environment, skill shortages, limited consumer base, locational disadvantage, unclear policies, political instability, lack of technical capacity and many more. Therefore, the main purpose of the study is to critically analyze and extract all the factors that impact the viability of green projects in such countries (Bhattacharyya & Palit 2014). 1.2 Research Background and Importance Developing countries are susceptible to climate change because of their tendency to exploit their own natural resources for the sake of economic fruition. The dire consequences would certainly challenge mankind with the advent of bleak weather and insecurity of food and water. Their continual exploitation of natural resources not only disrupt the climate but overall ecosystem and weather pattern(Hynes & Wang 2012). In order to curb challenges mentioned above, the concept of ‘Green Growth’ has emerged as a new way to reframe the old growth model and also to reevaluate decisions based on the economic growth. Green Growth is the realistic means to meet the sustainable development goals through economic growth and prosperity alongside climate change mitigation. Despite the known facts regarding environmental and energy crisis in developing countries, the necessary actions remain absent. This is due to lack of vision and willingness to commit to required transformation (Bhattacharyya & Palit 2014). In many occasion, green projects are addressed verbally as a development strategy papers, however, its implementations are often weak in practice (Hansen & Wethal 2014). Green projects are the key to economic stability and mitigation measures for climate change in developing countries. It is an essential part for a development and a means to achieve sustainable goal for the betterment of the nation and its people. The understanding of the opportunities and challenges depending on the location plays a major role in successful implementation of green project (Bhattacharyya & Palit 2014). The case studies in developing countries like India, Nepal, Philippines etc. clearly shows that such projects become impractical due to the lack of adequate finance, communications issues, implementation strategies, inadequate knowledge of technology, insufficient idea of difficult rural environment and consumer base resulting in failure of green projects adding more burden on the economy of the country.
