Belmand College Belmand College is a registered private higher education institution in South Africa. It specializes in training IT Diplomas and Professional Courses with its Campus located in Midrand, Midrand Campus has 3 buildings which houses the different departments, lecture rooms and labs. Building A houses the IT Department, Library and Main Administration, the other buildings B and C houses lecture rooms and labs. The college has a total enrollment of about 2000 students. They intent to adopt a hybrid cloud model where servers for ERP system, and Moodle servers are hosted on premise while the college website and emails are hosted in the cloud. The management of the college has embarked on an ambitious program to expand its footprint to other provinces and open two more campuses in Durban and Cape Town. Durban Campus will be running in a three Storey Building with the Admin, Library and IT support housed in Ground Floor, Lecture Rooms and Labs are in the First and second floor. Cape- Town Campus building has two floors; the Admin, IT support and the library on the ground floor and lecture rooms are on the first floor.
You have been appointed as a Network Security Engineer Lead for Belmand to champion the design, development and implementation of a network and security infrastructure project that will provide very high-speed connection for all the three campuses securely. Each of the new two campuses is expected to have at least 500 students. You should focus on the following focus areas in your project as project deliverables.
Deliverable 1
(a) Develop a network plan for the college detailing and justifying the different technologies and vendor devices and connection mediums that will be used to implement a high-speed secure network infrastructure. You should use the appropriate tool to draw the network diagram (topology).
(b) Develop an IP address plan showing how are you going to segment the network. Note that students and staff should be able to access campus resources like Wi-Fi regardless at any of the three campuses regardless of which campus they physically work or attend lectures. You should justify the choice of the chosen IP address plan. All workings and calculations should be shown if any.
Deliverable 2
a. Using Cisco Packet Tracer implement the network designed in deliverable 1 above showing the network of Belmand College campuses connected together. The diagram should show how all the devices proposed in Deliverable 1.
b. Perform all the necessary configurations on all routers and switches enable connectivity for all the devices in the different campuses. NOTE that you will demonstrate the connectivity of the network during the presentation. All the appropriate protocols should be configured.
Deliverable 3
There is a need to ensure that traffic that ingress and egress traffic is monitored and filtered on the network. It is also important to ensure that access between the different network segments especially the management network is controlled.
1. Add the device on the network and make all the necessary configurations to ensure that the network is secure to achieve the above.
2. Configure standard and extended access control lists to help ensure access to the finance and students management system or network segments is controlled.
Deliverable 4
1 The college also intends to allow remote work for its employees. Configure the network using the appropriate technology to allow for secure remote work.
2. You must also configure wireless access and wireless settings.
Deliverable 5
Create a documentation for all the network configurations done from Deliverables 1-4. In your documentation include how do you plan to do the following.
