Specific Assignment Requirements

• Place your thesis statement at the top of your annotated bibliography.
• Your instructor must have a good understanding of your overall argument in order to determine if your sources will logically support your overall claim.
• Your thesis statement will be graded as part of the annotated bibliography assignment.

• Be sure that you understand what an annotated bibliography is
• Be sure that you closely examine the example entry as your entries will need to be styled in a similar manner
• Add a sentence somewhere in each annotation (paragraph) that explains which subtopic in your thesis the article will apply to

• Reference:
• Provide a reference of your source that adheres to APA formatting.
• This should reflect what you would normally place in your references page

Summative Review:

1. Provide an overview of the source
2. What are the important points covered in the article?
3. Explain the application of the source with regard to your topic/subtopics
4. Who is/are the author(s)?
5. When was the source written? Is it current with regard to your topic?
6. What is argued in the source? What is the thesis?
7. What is left out? What are the limitations of the source?
8. How is the source useful to your topic?
9. How will you apply it logically to your overall thesis and a specific subtopic?
10. How does this source support/contrast your other sources?

This essay is an argumentative research essay; therefore, the body of the essay should be written in the third-person point of view. You will be required to use at least eight secondary (academic) sources, but it is almost certain that you will need more sources than the minimum.
In this essay, you must paraphrase/summarize/quote your sources to support your arguments. This does not mean that you should use each source once and consider this requirement met. Use as many sources as you need in order to convey a clear understanding of what you are trying to argue.

Formatting Your Essay
Your essay should be double spaced and should be written in an Arial font of 12 and follow APA style. Use left align (ragged) rather than full (justified) alignment.
Aside from your thoughtful title, your title page must include your name, your student number, the date, and a word count (excluding the title page and references page). Place this information in the center of the page. Do not worry about the APA guide for your title page aside from the fact that it should contain a page number in the top right corner.
Do not use headings throughout your essay.
The required word count for this essay is too high for a five-paragraph essay: you will need more than three body paragraphs. Remember that the number of body paragraphs does not necessarily match the number of subtopics in your thesis.
You must use one of the topics provided; otherwise, your essay will be returned to you ungraded with a grade of zero. Be sure to narrow your focus as the topics are broad. The topics are meant to be a starting point for you.
Conduct your research. You will complete this task initially through an annotated bibliography.
Devise a thesis statement. You will also complete this task initially when constructing an annotated bibliography.
Support your claims. Each paragraph should be devoted to explaining and supporting a particular subtopic within your thesis. Each paragraph should have a topic sentence, and each body paragraph (excluding the first) should have a smooth transition connecting it the preceding paragraph.
