Task 1 Prepare a computer to function as a Windows Server 2012 domain controller
Log on to the first computer (DC) on which you have installed Windows Server 2012 using the Administrator account and the password Pa$$w0rd.
Open an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt and issue the following command:

Enter the following command: "Netsh interface ipv4 set address "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.10 255.255.255.0"
Enter the following command:
netdom renamecomputer %computername% /newname:DC
Restart the computer and log back on using the Administrator account.
Open an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt and issue the following command:
Add-WindowsFeature AD-Domain-Services -IncludeManagementTools
Open the Server Manager console. Click the Refresh icon.
Click the Notifications icon and then click Promote This Server To Domain Controller.
In the Deployment Configuration page, choose Add A New Forest. Enter Contoso.com as the root domain name and then click Next.
In the Domain Controller Options page, configure the following settings and then click Next:
In the DNS Options page, click Next.
In the Additional Options page, click Next.
Accept the default settings for the Database, Log Files, and SYSVOL locations and then click Next.
In the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password dialog box, enter the password Pa$$w0rd twice and then click Next.
In the Review Options page, click Next.
In the Prerequisites Check page, click Install. The computer restarts automatically.
Exercise 2 Prepare AD DS
Log on to server DC using the Administrator account.
Using Active Directory Users And Computers, create a user account named Kim_Akers in the Users container and assign the account the password Pa$$w0rd. Configure the password to never expire. Add this user account to the Enterprise Admins, Domain Admins, and Schema Admins groups.
Open the DNS console and create a primary IPv4 Reverse Lookup Zone for the subnet 10.10.xx.0. Ensure that the zone is stored within Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), is replicated to all DNS servers running on domain controllers in the forest, and allows only secure dynamic updates.
Exercise 3 Prepare a member server and join it to the domain
Ensure that computer DC is turned on and connected to the network or virtual network to which the second computer is connected.
Log on to the second computer (SYD-A) that you have installed Windows Server 2012 on using the Administrator account and the password Pa$$w0rd.
Open an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt and issue the following commands:
cmd
Netsh interface ipv4 set address "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.20 255.255.255.0
Netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.10 primary
Enter the following command:
netdom renamecomputer %computername% /newname:SYD-A
Restart the computer and then log on again using the Administrator account.
From an elevated Windows PowerShell command prompt, issue the following commands:
cmd
netdom join SYD-A /domain:contoso.com
Restart the computer. When the computer restarts, log on as contoso\Administrator and then turn off the computer.
Exercise 4 Prepare a second member server and join it to the domain
Ensure that computer DC is turned on and connected to the network or virtual network to which the second computer is connected.
Log on to the third computer that you have installed Windows Server 2012 on using the Administrator account and the password Pa$$w0rd.
Open an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt and issue the following commands:
cmd
Netsh interface ipv4 set address "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.30 255.255.255.0
Netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.10 primary
Enter the following command:
netdom renamecomputer %computername% /newname:SYD-B
Restart the computer and then log on again using the Administrator account.
From an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt, issue the following commands:
cmd
netdom join SYD-B /domain:contoso.com
Restart the computer. When the computer restarts, log on as contoso\Administrator. Turn off the computer.
Exercise 5 Prepare a computer running the Server Core installation option and join it to the domain
Ensure that computer DC is turned on and connected to the network or virtual network to which the second computer is connected.
Log on to the computer that you have installed Windows Server 2012 in the Server Core configuration on using the Administrator account and the password Pa$$w0rd.
From the Administrator command prompt, enter the following commands:
Netsh interface ipv4 set address "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.40 255.255.255.0
Netsh interface ipv4 set dnsservers "Ethernet" static 10.10.xx.10 primary
Enter the following command to configure the computer’s name:
netdom renamecomputer %computername% /newname:SYD-CORE
Enter the following command to restart the computer:
Shutdown /r /t 5
Restart the computer and log back on using the Administrator account.
Enter the following command to join the computer to the domain:
netdom join SYD-CORE /domain:contoso.com
Enter the following command to restart the computer:
Shutdown /r /t 5
Restart the computer. When the computer restarts, log on as contoso\Administrator. Turn off the computer using the following command:
Shutdown /s /t 5
