Assessment Task:

This assessment is comprised of 2 case studies. Case study 1 is given to you, whilst case study 2 must be formulated from your clinical placement experience. 

This assessment task will allow students to demonstrate their critical thinking and reasoning, as well as their research skills. Students will also demonstrate how evidence-based information can be implemented into contemporary Australian Nursing practice. 

General instructions for the assessment 

• The case study word limit is 1500 (plus or minus 20%). All words are calculated towards the word limit except for the cover page, title page, direct quotes, and end-text references. If you write less or more than this, penalties will apply. 

• The case study must be presented in accordance with the IHM Assessment Guidelines (available on Knowledge Hub). Students can submit their written paper to Turnitin at any time during the course but no later than the assessment submission deadline. Keep your Turnitin receipt as evidence of submission. 

• If the student wishes to apply for an extension, they can apply prior to the due date in writing, using the correct IHM form for requesting extensions, stating the grounds for the extension request and any evidence to support the extension (eg. medical certificate). 

• Students must adhere to the Assessment Guidelines when writing the essay. 

• All assessments should include a Turnitin Assessment Cover Sheet. 

• Assessment will be written in academic essay format with an introduction, body and conclusion. 

• Students required to use the APA referencing system and select seven to ten refereed articles that provide the strongest evidence for your topic. 

• All articles must be ≤ 5 years old. 

• Please use Turnitin to submit your assessment for marking and check for plagiarism before making a final submission. At the same time, download a copy of your final submission and the Similarity report and upload both files in Student Hub before the due date. 

CASE STUDY  

This assessment will require you to submit a case study whilst on Professional Experience Placement. The case study must be completed on a patient you are caring for who has a chronic condition. 

INSTRUCTIONS: 

1. Explain the situation and condition(s) of the patient 

2. Use the clinical reasoning cycle below to assist you in writing this assessment. 

3. Review all the current information including the patient’s assessment, health history, laboratory test, the pathophysiology of disease and medication.
