“Palliative Care” 

An annotated bibliography is a brief summary and evaluation of a number of selected journal articles. It is similar to a reference list in that it includes the full referencing details of each journal article in alphabetical order. It differs from a reference list because it includes a brief description or summary of the contents, a brief critical analysis and an evaluation of the relevance and usefulness of the text. Having already completed Assessment 1, creating the research question and search strategy, you will be ready to select your articles for this assignment. 

Become familiar with palliative care nursing practice in the Australian contemporary context, through research, analysis and evaluation of the literature. 

Consider how evidence in the literature can inform and underpin nursing practice by making connections to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australian’s (NMBA) codes and guidelines. 

Step 1 : Choosing your paper 

1. Choosing a paper: From the search strategy, (2) articles must be chosen for you to critically analyse. 

They can be selected from the same or different databases 

Step 2: Writing your Annotated Bibliography. 

You will write an Annotated Bibliography for each of your (2) articles. Please use the following format for each article you have chosen: The Annotated Bibliography MUST contain:

1. Reference: The article that will be discussed will be referenced and appear at the beginning. 

APA 6th edition format will be used to reference the article. 

2. Introduction: (100 words) In this section ensure you introduce the reader to your topic, be interesting and clearly describe what you will discuss within your assessment. 

3. Overview: (500 Words) In this section, you must summarise the study to demonstrate why it was chosen in relation to your research question. It should contain:

4. Evaluation: (400 Words) In this section you critically evaluate the study to by identifying:

5. Relevance to Australian Nursing Standards: (400 Words) In this section you are to demonstrate your understanding of how the findings in the article relate to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s (NMBA) codes and guidelines. Specifically, the: 

The articles you choose should answer the research question you have asked. 

The 2 journal articles must have been published within the last 10 years (i.e. 2009-2019). Using dated articles older than 10 years (2004 or earlier) will result in significant marks being deducted. 

They MUST be primary research studies, for example, randomised control trial (RCT), cohort study, or longitudinal study. You CANNOT use a systematic review, meta- analyses, literature review or a discussion/opinion paper for this report.
