NRSG372-Chronic Illness and Disability

Aim: The current task aims to provide students with an opportunity to engage with a health consumer and to gain insight into the impact chronic illness and/or disability has on the consumer's life. Here, a case study of a 30-year-old female suffering from diabetes will be discussed and how this chronic illness can impact her life. The overall requirements of the research work are to identify care priorities, outline and discuss SMART goals and what education should be provided to meet the SMART goal. Later the task will identify, link and rationalise where the person sits on the Roper-Logan-Theory (RLT) model of nursing independence to dependence continuum.

Assignment Sections: The current research work should be written in an easy format having an introduction, main body and conclusion. However, the main section is divided into seven paragraphs which include the overview of the patient's chronic health condition, pathophysiology of diabetes, priorities of care, SMART goals to achieve these priorities and the relevant health education provided to the patient.

Search strategy: For the search strategy, the inclusion criteria were used. Research articles from the last ten years published in English and showed resemblance with the aim of current research work are included. Meanwhile, those who do not focus on nursing interventions for diabetic patients are excluded. The structure of the current work includes only an introduction, main paragraphs, conclusion, and reference list as per the marking rubric.

Keywords and databases: To fulfil these requirements, the data will be collected from online databases like PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL, the keywords used are diabetes and nurses, the effect of diabetes on living, and key priorities of diabetic patients.

Formatting: The formatting style of the research work requires a Word document with 2.54 cm margins on all sides, a font size of 11 Calibri or Arial, and spacing of 1.5, including the reference list. The research required at least 18 high-quality and contemporary resources, including nursing-related literature, textbook, and other medically focused literature.
