Task

Students will develop a 10-minute narrated professional development resource using PowerPoint on end-stage heart failure (ESHF). The goal of the resource is to educate and inform final-year nursing students. This is not a resource for general consumers or community members; therefore, you are required to use professional terminology.

Your presentation must include the following:

• Introduction to palliative care and overview of the National Palliative Care Standards.
• Overview of ESHF and its Australian epidemiology. Include trajectory of illness and the impacts ESHF has across the lifespan with reference to a nursing model (e.g. Roper-Logan-Tierney)
• Focusing on the terminal phase of care explore the sign/s of fluid overload OR breathing difficulties. You must include discussion on:
• Pathophysiology focusing on understanding the sign/s chosen.
• Assessment and relevant nursing care during the terminal phase including:
• Physical care - A minimum of at least one (1) pharmacological AND one (1) non-pharmacological strategy to support chosen sign/s.
• Psycho-social care - A minimum of at least one (1) person-centered AND one (1) family/carer-centred strategy to support terminal phase.
• Link care expectations to the National Palliative Care Standards.
• Discuss one (1) general legal and one (1) ethical care considerations at end-of-life.
• Intext referencing must be included in the slides and a reference list included at the end of the presentation.

Your presentation should follow this format:

1. Slide 1: Title slide – Include your name and student number (No audio required for the title slide): Does not count towards your 10 Content slide limit if no audio.

2. Slide 2: Introduction slide. Outline what you will be discussing, who your target audience is, and what you want your audience to learn. This is the first of your content slides.

3. Slides 3-10: Content slides continued.

• Present information as outlined above and in reference to the rubric.
• You must use in-text citations at the point of the information.
• You are encouraged to use images/tables that support your explanation. These must be also be referenced.

4. Slide 11: Conclusion. Summarise key points and link to the learning you wanted your audience to have from the introduction.
