Kathy is a 21-year-old female who lives in a rural and remote Queensland town. Kathy lives alone and does not have a job. She currently receives welfare payments from the government to help her buy food and pay for rent. Kathy is not motivated and often feels sad and down at times for no apparent reason. She only sleeps a few hours each night and does not eat healthy or exercise. She is underweight for her age and is tired all the time. She occasionally takes recreational drugs and drinks four standard drinks of alcohol on a daily basis. Kathy has a family history of major depression and she worries that she may develop depression. 

Kathy has decided to visit her doctor and discuss how she is feeling. After talking with the doctor, the doctor tells Kathy that her overall health is being affected and he recommends that Kathy see her local community health nurse (you) to reduce her risk factors for developing depression. 

You are the Community Nurse who meets with Kathy. Your role is to discuss her current lifestyle and risk factors and develop strategies on how you can help her lead a healthier lifestyle.

 You need to:

• You will also need to complete independent research about: Depression, social and behavioural determinants; and motivational interviewing principles.
