You are required to identify potential signs of deterioration in a patient with complex trauma. Drawing on your knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology you will describe the physiological processes occurring during deterioration and identify and justify a suitable intervention to address these changes and maintain homeostasis. Lastly, you will demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively with other members of the treating team as well as the patient and their family.

Read the case study and then address the following tasks from the perspective of the registered nurse.

1) For one (1) injury in each group, identify one (1) potential complication associated with that injury which may cause Tony's' curent condition to deteriorate

2) For each potential complication state what changes you would expect to see to any relevant physiological parameters that indicate deterioration is occurring. Discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms which lead to these changes and explain why they occur.

3) For each complication, identify a suitable intervention to prevent further deterioration and critically discuss why you have chosen this intervention. Each intervention may be collaborative with another member of the multidisciplinary team, but your discussion must focus on the nursing role in your chosen intervention.

4) Demonstrate how you would effectively communicate the application and clinical reasoning of your intervention to Tony's family.
