Assignment Task

The assessment instructions have been designed to enable you to understand what is required to succeed in this assignment. The aim of this assessment task is to describe the reasons why we need to use and apply evidence- based practice (EBP) in our clinical environment. You should describe what different levels of EBP exist and why research evidence is grouped in a specific hierarchy. You should also explain the term PICO and point out why clinical guidelines are a necessary component in evidence-based practice.

Start with a brief introduction e.g., why evidence-based practice is an important element in healthcare and nursing and then describe the various levels of EBP which ones of those are better suited to provide evidence than others. You can include references in your introduction. Please include a reference for every claim you make. In the first paragraph you can describe the definition of EBP and provide some examples. In a second paragraph you should then describe the concept of PICO and maybe detail in two to three sentences what P, I, C and O stands for. In a last paragraph you can describe how clinical guidelines and EBP are connected. Each body paragraph should commence with a topic sentence that identifies the main topic for that paragraph.

The following sentences should discuss the topic in more detail. The final sentence should summarise the content that you have just discussed and link and connect to the next paragraph. Do not just present dot points in a list, your assignment should be a coherent piece of text with a good flow. You can write about different levels of evidence, and how different study approaches are distinguished from one another. Your final conclusion should not introduce new information. You should include at least seven references and they should generally not be older than seven years, unless they are seminal.
