Scenario 1
Jane is an enrolled nurse working in the Women’s Medical Ward. Mary’s colleagues had noticed that the patients in Mary’s care were neglected for over several shifts, that wet sheets were unchanged, urine bottles not emptied and the patient did not have a bath the whole day.
Mary was also spending a lot of time at the nurses’ station and ignored everyone.

Scenario 2
Joseph is an enrolled nurse working in in the Rehabilitation Unit in Tamavua. Shona the registered nurse asked him to help her put in a urinary catheter for Mrs Khan.
While Sera explained to the Mrs Khan the reason for the urinary catheter, Joseph just walked to Mrs Khan’s bedside and assisted Registered Nurse Sera. Joseph did not ask Mrs Khan if she was comfortable with him assisting the registered nurse. Mrs Khan was uncomfortable however, she felt that she had no choice.
Mrs Khan’s family made a complaint to the nurse unit manager about Joseph assisting in the procedure.

Scenario 3
Sera the registered nurse in Outpatient department asked Shane an enrolled nurse to do a simple dressing on Richard who had a superficial cut on his leg. Richard who is 14 years old boy was very scared but Shane spoke very softly to him and reassured him that she will be gentle as possible. She allowed Richard’s mother to sit with him whilst she was doing the dressing.
As Martha removed the old dressing, she noticed that the cut was infected so she informed the Registered nurse who then informed the doctor.
The doctor praised Sera for being observant and reporting to the registered otherwise the infection could have spread to Richard’s bone.
