To help with writing your reflection you should; 
1. Access the following document “Evidence Check: Patients experiences in Australian hospitals”  (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, 2015), located on the NUR1100 study  desk. 

Reflection Framework 
You will be using a framework by Borton (1970) using 3 key stages; describing the situation, exploring  the situation, and learning how to apply knowledge to practice. You are provided with prompting  questions which will guide your reflection.  
Stage 1: What? Describe the Situation (approx. 300 words) 
Based on the patient experience document, identify and describe a range of factors highlighted that  positively or negatively impacted on patients experiences during their hospital care.

Based on the factors identified in stage 1, how important according to the nursing literature is it that  nurses provide care in a caring manner?

How is caring described / defined in the nursing literature? 
What is some evidence that being caring improves the patient experience and patient outcomes? What are commonly identified as caring behaviours by nurses in the nursing literature? Are there any nursing theories that relate specifically to the concept of caring? Describe one. 
How might the factors identified from the patient experience relate to caring encounters as described in  your Fundamentals of Nursing Text (Chapter 26, Vol 2). 
Stage 3: Now what? How can the new learning be translated into practice?
Describe overall what you have learnt about caring and nursing and the patient experience, as well as  evidence about the impact of caring practice.

Can you learn to be more caring? 
Is there new knowledge that you have gained as a result of doing this reflection?
