You are commencing an evening shift as a student nurse (SN) in a male surgical ward. You have just received handover from the staff on the morning shift in the Staff Room. One of your allocated patients, Mr Mandeep Singh, 76 years of age, recovering from removal of his appendix 2 days ago. The handover informs that Mr Singh has been experiencing episodes of confusion and disorientation, particularly with locating his room since his surgical procedure. As you approach him, you see he is visibly distressed by his facial expression. He looks at you and says softly, “Excuse me, can you tell my nurse to come and help me to my bed, as I can’t see them anywhere.”
