Brief task description
Essay: The Age 40 Non-Aboriginal Australian Caucasian Male OR the ‘Female Aboriginal Australian Patient Experience and Partnering in Care
Rationale for assessment task Assessment 1 Item assists you to develop the knowledge and skills to evaluate the patient experience using The ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses (International Council of Nurses [ICN], 2012), the Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA], 2018), and the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (NMBA, 2016), as well as the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care [ACSQHC], 2017) as key measures, along with other relevant literature. Thus, this assignment allows you to implement this knowledge and skill to prepare you for your professional role as a Registered Nurse (RN), reflecting on care using the patient/family care experiences as a quality indicator of care, as well as ways to partner with patients/families to improve care. The aim of reflecting is to evaluate care in order to direct recommendations for reform that will improve the quality of care and the patient/family experience.
Task information
Task detail Background Information
Reflection is a way of thinking and working for Registered Nurses and is useful in raising our conscious awareness of aspects of care that may be hidden from our view. This raised awareness about these aspects of care improves our understanding as nurses and assist us in directing action strategies that can improve both the patient and their family’s experience and the ‘partnering in care’ strategies that we utilise. Improving the ‘patient care experience and partnering in care’ by using Gibbs 6 Stage Reflection Cycle (adapted version by Burns & Bulman 2000) as a framework, and in combination with drawing upon relevant literature/(theory), provides a foundation for nurses to operate from and as such is required for Assignment 1.
