Therefore Task 3 is to review and report on current literature relevant to health professional attributes and quality of their services from the core values expected by industry listed on page 7 in the National Palliative Care Standards.
Each of these core values can have a lasting impact on a person and their family when receiving care during their end of life phase.
The Literature Review (report) is to the select topic and question below - one (1) only;
a. The influence of advocate and its importance as a standard of care by nurse’s in
the provision of quality Palliative care when supporting the person and their family during end of life care.
b. The influence of dignity and its importance as a standard of care by nurse’s in the provision of quality Palliative care when supporting the person and their family during end of life care.
Aim of this assessment:
• investigates a nurse’s professional attributes and influence these may have on those in care during the end of life illness experience
• explore and search the library database to the focus topic outlined above
• consider how these attributes can impact on recipients of care with discussion on what would be the effects on care outcomes relevant to end of life care experience

LITERATURE REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS
1. This knowledge shapes your future as a professional nurse and knowledge of Palliative care attributes and expectation by industry. Select one (1) core value provided under the Description section located above of this information sheet.
2. Uncertain of what are the Eight (8) Core Values? Then review Learning materials Module 4 (Introducing Core Values) to find out more. Core values are on page 7 of the National Palliative Care Standards.
3. Search current published journal using the USC library database. This is very important as the use of current peer journal articles is the ONLY source for Task 3.
NOTE: Usage of secondary resources such as textbooks will NOT support this assessment requirement.
4. You will need to do an Advanced search in the Library database. Choice of key words and phrases are very important when doing this process. For example; advocate or dignity, health care attributes, standard of care by nurses, end of life, quality care, dying bereavement.
NOTE: If you are uncertain on what is an Advanced search, contact the librarian for help. Otherwise you can contain Academic student support services. Do this early as the selection of journal articles for your reporting response will be reliant of the type of selection choice you make.
5. Word limit - 1000 ± 10% including intext citations. This count is not to include the reference list. Review the template for word count in each section. You are required not to deviate from this.
6. Follow the template provided. The template will guide you populating each section
and supports the structured layout. It is important that you proofread prior to FINAL SUBMISSION.
7. Selected Journals. You must have at least 7 journal references from recognised
peer review journals within a 5-year timeline from the publication period. No textbooks are to be used in this assessment item. No more than 10 journals maximum.
Marks received will consider: - the selection of articles based on quality, currency of articles, relevance to topic. For example, use of a total of 8 excellent quality articles all of which strengthens review and the reporting as opposed to 10 basic articles with little alignment to the searched topic. The search and reporting of the literature to the topic is very important.
The National Palliative Care Standards 5th edition care be reference and used as citation in the introduction of this report. This is where the core value originated and therefore must be identified.
8. Referencing. For this item other sources such as textbooks do not support the
marking response. You will jeopardise marks if textbooks are used as this is not the assessment brief. The referencing style by USC School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine is the Harvard style. You are directed USC Academic Skills on Referencing, for the Harvard style. You can also check with referencing resources provided by the USC library.

Frequently Asked Questions - Task 3 - Literature Review (or component)
Are we able to use the 'Standards for Providing Quality Palliative Care' for all Australians document as a reference to critique?
The requirement of this assessment item is to critique other authors viewpoints surrounding the same concept. It would be impossible to critique an analysis on grey literature, standards or guidelines specific to what this Assessment Task 3 question is asking. Looking closer at the rubric it mentions published quality peer journal articles.
Do I need to have everything included on the one page for the review – my references don’t fit?
No, your reference list can be on a separate page. This page is to follow the USC conventions with header and footer. The header is with your name and the Task 3 item. Page number in the footer. All other elements must be included on the review using a size 12 font. The referencing list section is to have a size 12 font.
What do you mean by a Table?
The Table section of the report can be viewed as a summary presentation. The Table can provide a clear visual correlation of the synthesis - the summary of themes / concepts in the report section. There is a correlation or connect between the Table which demonstrates the authors similarities on the key points
without taking up too much space and when designed properly can support the Themes / Groups from within the body (report) section. The Table can easily highlight the similarities and differences on each of the authors.
What is the template to this presentation?
The template helps you in planning the content layout. The template gives a basic structure on the overall design and presentation and can also help as a guide to build on and develop into a final product for submission. It highlights the importance of the information by the way the information is structured. A good layout supports the report to the discussion and vice versa - overall 'flow of the read' from beginning to end.
