This assessment challenges you to think like a Registered Nurse who is presenting a case study at a Unit Case Conference. It provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate meeting RN standards for practice 2.8 nurses participate in and/or lead collaborative practice, 4.2 collects relevant and accurate information and data to inform practice, and 4.4 assesses the resources available to inform planning. (NMBA, 2016).
Objectives
Apply and integrate knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology, pharmacology, and diagnostics to case studies of individuals with emergentand complex health conditions in high acuity health care settings. Apply and integrate previous learnings of health assessment and nursingmanagement to individuals with complex health conditions in high acuityhealth care settings.
Apply critical thinking, clinical reasoning and reflective practice skills to arange of complex acute conditions across the lifespan to demonstrate appropriate person centred, evidence-based nursing care. Evaluate the nurse’s role within the inter-professional and intraprofessional team in regard to effective communication and teamwork in decision makingpractices within high acuity clinical case studies.
Task detail
This assessment requires you to prepare and present a 12-15 minute case study on one (1) complex acute condition from the list below
26 year old female who has multiple sclerosis with multi-system involvement 21 year old male who has Guillain-Barre Syndrome with ascending paralysis 18 year old male who fell from a 2nd story balcony and has blunt force trauma head injury with GCS 9/15 51 year old female who has acute pancreatitis as a result of a large gall stone 74 year old male who has Hyperosmolar Hyperglycaemic State (HHS) with serum BGL41 mmol/L 8 year old female who has diabetic ketoacidosis – new diagnosis of Type 1 DM Prepare Power Point Slides to go with your presentation. Each slide must have a minimum of one (1) reference to support the information on it.

Introduce your case study (give your patient a name) and the main points of the presentation.
Presentation
The case study must include the following: Anatomy and physiology of the condition (approx. 2 minutes) Signs and symptoms of the condition inclusive of those of deterioration. Health assessments and diagnostics One potential prescribed pharmaceutical Nursing management person-centred, culturally safe, age appropriate.
