Highlights
Task:
The purpose of the article is to demonstrate computerised vs manual blood pressure monitoring in patients admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU), in emergency department and in intensive care unit (ICU). The authors attempted to contrast the efficiency of manual as well as automated manual blood pressure measurements in a variety of clinical situations amongst the patients over a one-year period. The study was conducted from August to December 2014, being an independent, cross-sectional research was performed at Shariati Hospital located in Isfahan, Iran's central region. The research included patients present in the intensive care unit (ICU), emergency department as well as coronary care unit (CCU). Exclusion criteria included the absence of informed permission from patients to take part in the study. The findings of this research indicated that using the manual technique to measure blood pressure often leads in elevated blood pressure, particularly in patients hospitalised – approximately 15 mmHg more - and is significantly related with sex, age, various diseases, and obesity. According to this research, we cannot fully rely on automated results when measuring blood pressure in a hospital environment, particularly in serious circumstances, and a manual technique must be used as a reference. The study provided an in-depth comparison and the results of the study aligned with that of the previous studies. The study is conducted in appropriate place and therefore, the results are trustworthy.

The objective of this article is to define Blood Pressure, analyse the variables that govern and affect it, and discuss the different techniques of measurement, detailing the benefits and drawbacks of currently used equipment. In order to obtain outcomes, a search of the Medline and CINAH databases was performed by using key terms 'measurement', 'blood pressure’, 'automated blood pressure measurement', 'oscillometric'. and 'mercury sphygmomanometer'. Accurate blood pressure measurement is critical for detecting, monitoring, and managing hypertension. The methods of assessing and recording blood pressure is often fraught with mistakes, both on the part of the observer and the equipment employed. The research found that a mercury sphygmomanometer should be maintained as a reference standard in authorised labs to guarantee for new devices to comply with established validation procedures, like those accessible via the British Hypertension Society or the European Society of Hypertension. The objective of the study has been fulfilled while giving a relevant conclusion. The study has identified majority of the factors that might act as an influential factor for measuring the blood pressure which includes but not limited to which arm to be used, the site, time required and precautions for operator.

The authors sought to determine the reliability of automatic oscillometric blood pressure readings in Karachi, in comparison to manual measurement. Doctors are often encouraged to conduct regular blood pressure checks on most of the patients. Overestimation of blood pressure exposes the patient to the risk of harmful medication reactions, as well as needless medical expenses and dietary restrictions. Although a patient treated on the basis as on underestimated measurement is at risk of developing Hypertension-related illnesses, which may substantially shorten life expectancy, as a result, an exact measurement is critical. The BP was measured concurrently in two hundred subjects aged 15 and over via an automatic oscillometric blood pressure equipment and a manual mercury sphygmomanometer. Each patient was given two nurses, and the equipment, arm used to take the reading, and nurses were chosen randomly. The authors found that systolic measurements from a prior validated instrument are unreliable when utilised in emergency room and exhibit a greater degree of incongruence and inaccuracy whenever utilized beyond of validation conditions. Additionally, readings from right arm are more exact. The authors obtained conclusion by conducting quantitative research. The results obtained from the experiment are therefore insightful for practical purpose.
