During my clinical assessment, Mrs. Freda Barnett, “a 62-year-old female” transferred to the ward from the emergency department with the history of lethargy, productive cough, shortness of breath and a low-grade temperature. I was required to work in a clinical team with other nurses and undertake the role of the Exposure Nurse within the context of a deteriorating patient. As an exposure nurse, I was required to prepare and administer intravenous (IV) antibiotics through peripheral cannula by using aseptic techniques under the supervision of registered nurse. To begin with, I performed hand hygiene, introduced myself to the patient and checked the patient identification such as name, UR number, date of birth and allergy states. After that, I checked temperature, which was 38.5 degree Celsius, so I removed blankets from the patient. However, I could not administer IV antibiotic medication within the time and I also forgot about patient- centered-care due to lack of time management skills.
