Overview of the Client
Bree is a nine-year-old girl who is in year three at the Metro Primary School. Three years ago, Bree was diagnosed with diabetes. It is unclear from the scenario if Bree has type I or type II diabetes. Bree is turning ten in six weeks’ time and is very excited. Bree is a sporty girl who participates in various types of extracurricular sports at school and outside of school. Her teacher describes her as an “outdoorsy type of girl", she is good at swimming and does well than any other student in her class. Bree is good at multiple types of sports and attends sports day where she is the fastest running girl in her class. Bree is also a member of the junior girl's netball team and she also plays interschool sport every Friday. Bree regularly has friends come to her house on weekends and they enjoy it. She also has some other friends other than her school group which attend the swimming club that she goes to. Bree noticed her friends from school were not inviting her to their birthday parties, she got sad because everyone got an invitation except her. Bree asked her mother Kate, why she wasn’t getting invited to the parties of her friends from school. Bree had started thinking that maybe her friends maybe do not like her, because she has never been invited to a birthday party or to anyone’s house. Bree’s mother started investigating the cause of the issue that Bree was experiencing. Kate discussed these matters with Bree's class teacher. The teacher told Kate that she can’t do much because this was not an issue related to school. Kate privately asks the mothers of Sally, Alice and Abagail. Kate asks Sally's mother what the reason for not inviting Bree to her daughter’s party. The mother explains that because of Bree’s Diabetes that she thought it might be too risky and she might get some type of attack at the party which may lead to her death. Therefore, Sally's didn't invite Bree. Kate asked Alice’s mother, she said that Bree might eat wrong the foods may lapse into a coma. Alice’s mother didn’t take risk of her daughter inviting Bree. Lastly, Abgali’s mother, she explained that Bree’s teacher told the class that she needed many injections during the day for her diabetes. Abagail’s mother said she couldn’t give treatment needed to Bree at the party and she didn’t want to create difficulty for Bree, herself and the children who she was responsible for therefore, Abagail wasn’t able to invite Bree.
