Background

In 2018 Coffs Harbour introduced an Adult Electronic Record for Intensive Care (AICU eRIC) to improve regional ICU capabilities. AICU eRIC integrates bedside monitors, ventilators and other equipment to provide valuable live data to inform clinical decision-making with a nurse or doctor at the patient’s bedside. The AICU eRIC also integrates with ward systems to transfer medication management information.

Electronic transfer of care ensures the continuity of a consumer’s care when they change locations. NSW Health built a technical bridge between AICU eRIC and electronic medical records (eMR) to allow the digital transfer of some clinical information from the ICU to general wards and from general wards to community health.
