3.proficiency in academic writing skills of paraphrasing the ideas of others, summarizing key information relevant to the topic, and referencing. 
C.INSTRUCTIONS

Choose ONE of the case scenarios in section E below. 
2.Introduce your mind-map. 
3.Create a one-page mind-map in Landscape summarizing the information in Table 1 below in relation to your chosen patient case scenario. 
4.Include a reference list using APA 7th edition format.  
 


Scenario A: Kirra Maree Jones - Gastro-oesophageal Reflux disease
Ms Kirra Maree Jones is a 44 year old woman who presents with severe indigestion, heart burn  (pyrosis), dysphagia, nausea and belching that occurs after she eats.  
Ethnicity: A proud Yugambeh / Kombumerri woman from Burleigh Heads. 
Religion: Nil stated. 
Diet: No special diet. During the 2020 COVID-19 restrictions she states that she started eating  more fast foods due to stress and ‘put on a little weight’. BMI = 29.  
Occupation: Barista in a local café 4 days a week rostered shifts. 
History: Her two adult children have left home and she now lives with her older sister. Kirra admits to eating take away fast food and often lies down on the couch to watch Netflix after eating, especially on her days off. She has also complained of a dry cough and wheeze.  Her GP sent her for diagnostic testing and the Gastroenterologist confirmed a diagnosis of  Gastro-oesophageal Reflux disease (GORD).

Scenario B: Lance Gardiner – Peptic-ulcer disease. 
Mr. Lance Gardiner is a 56-year-old man admitted to the hospital one week ago for investigations related to: feeling faint, vomiting coffee-ground emesis, and passing black tarry stools.  Ethnicity: Non-indigenous Australian. 
Religion: Nil stated. 
Diet: No special diet – states he eats a lot of fatty foods. BMI = 28. 
Occupation: High school teacher – geography and English. 
History: During the week immediately prior to his admission he reported experiencing gnawing pain in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. He stated that his pain was relieved when he ate food and on some days he took an antacid which seemed to help.  Reports taking six (200 mg) tablets of Ibuprofen daily for arthritis in his right hip for the past 6  years. 
He lives with his partner Fred, smokes 5-8 cigarettes per day and relaxes with 2 beers after work  each day. Lance did state that when his school closed during the COVID-19 pandemic he was  required to teach on-line, which he found very challenging and stressful. 
He and Fred take their dog for a 30 minute walk on both weekend days. Otherwise Lance has  little time for exercise. 
The gastroenterologist requested a gastroscopy which resulted in a diagnosis of peptic ulcer  disease (gastric ulcer).

Scenario C: Vivaan Ahuja – Colorectal cancer.  
Mr. Vivaan Ahuja is a 50-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital after undergoing a recent colonoscopy where a lesion was identified in the ascending colon and a biopsy taken. He has felt very tired over recent months, attributing this to stress. Prior to colonoscopy, his stools were loser and dark-colored. Blood results indicate mild anemia. On physical examination of the lower right quadrant, the Dr palpated an abdominal mass. Subsequent histology and an MRI confirmed a diagnosis of colorectal cancer (adenocarcinoma) stage 3B.  
Ethnicity: Australian Indian. 
Religion: Sikh. 
Diet: Vegetarian. BMI = 32. 
Occupation: Manager in an engineering firm.  
History: Seven years ago Vivaan had three benign polyps removed during a colonoscopy.  During the COVID pandemic in 2020, his income dropped 20%, and his wife lost her job. This resulted in significant psychological stress as the family readjusted to a lower standard of living in order to meet mortgage repayments. 
Do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol.  
Has a previous history of ulcerative colitis since age 29 years. 
Uncle died of colorectal cancer aged 63 years. 
Two children are away at university in Brisbane and Wollongong.
