Background Information:
There is evidence in the literature suggesting a link between leadership and clinical outcomes for consumers and also improved staff outcomes (improved staff outcome leads also to better consumer outcomes). Various leadership styles have been identified in the literature which are applicable within health care systems.
This essay requires you to offer a critique of and application of the various leadership styles reported in the literature. You are required to provide a brief background into your current or a previous work setting (preferably clinical) and write a critical review of the most effective leadership style best suited for your chosen setting. Your critique should include a justification of why you believe this particular leadership style would lead to or has led to improved clinicaloutcomes for the consumers or better outcomes for the clinicians/staff working in the identified environment.

Instructions:
Your essay should cover the following areas.

1. Provide an introduction/background that describes the practice/clinical setting you have chosen. This could be where you are currently working or where you have previously worked. You should also include other relevant information that might enhance your review (where applicable), these includes, patient acuity, staff mix, regulatory environment or any other relevant information.

2. You should then build a convincing argument as to which leadership style is best suited for the clinical environment taking into consideration the factors mentioned in point#1. In your discussion, you should provide a brief critique of the various leadership styles that exists in the literature while providing a detailed description of the chosen leadership style. Your essay will also need to take into consideration any complexities that might be associated with working in mental health.

3. You should provide at least one clinical or non-clinical example as the basis of your discussion to critique how the leadership style could have impacted on the overall outcome either for the consumer or clinical staff involved. Please note it could be that the particular style that was in place produced a good outcome for the consumer in which case you highlight how this occurred it could be that it failed to produce a good outcome in which case you present an alternate approach. 

Presentation and format requirements for Essay:

• The word count is 1,500 words (+/- 10%)- 5 pages double spacing, 12 size font. Please include your final word count at the beginning of the essay. The word count excludes the end text references used.
• A minimum of 8 references is required. References used should not be more than 10 years
• old except if it is a seminal work/study. Use APA 7th ed style.
• Use 2.5cm margins on each side of the page with double spacing between lines. Use 11 or 12 points fonts.
• Submit either word or PDF file types. Please note other file extensions would be unreadable which would result in your assignment not being marked.
