God created marriage, he also created the family but today the family is under siege from various factors.This course is designed to provide the student nurse with an understanding of the beginning family, as well as the skills and knowledge required to provide quality care to the expanding family.  Students are taught to plot the developmental stages of children from birth to the pre-schoolers stage.
It includes a review of psychological theories of childhood development, immunization, and concepts of anxiety, stress, pain, loss and play.  Related aspects of nutrition, communication, biological, social and cultural concepts are also integrated so that you, the health care workers will be equipped with the knowledgeto assist members of the public to maintain their health and their family’s health at an optimum level especially in the child 0-5 years old. The Bible clearly states that we should, “Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6). This is what we endeavour to achieve by empowering the caregivers of the beginning family. The framework of the nursing process is used to identify needs and provide appropriate intervention.

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE/COURSE RATIONALE

This course is designed to provide the student nurse with beginning skills and knowledge, which are required to provide quality care to the expanding family.  Students gain an understanding of the developmental stages of children from birth to the pre-schoolers. Students are able to recognize that truly there is a creator, who has masterminded this wonderful work of art in the form of humans.
