Assignment overview:
Students will be allocated to teams of two or three during the online modules by the Topic Coordinator. A scenario will be allocated during Module 4 that the team will need to research and present via Collaborate to the class in Modules 13-15. The presentation will require a PowerPoint consisting of two slides per student. Each student is required to submit the whole presentation.

The final presentation can contain an introductory slide and a slide of references.
Each team member is expected to speak for around 5minutes. The team will then lead a 5 min class discussion focused on the scenario and the content of the presentation.
As part of the assessment grade for this assignment, each team member is required to complete a Peer Evaluation for each of their team members. This form is to be submitted to the Assignment 3 drop box along with the team’s PowerPoint slides by the end of Module 12.

Developing the presentation:
Contact your team members and consider the scenario.
Use the module resources on FLO as a foundation, then use your experiences and research to develop your presentation together. Remember this is a team effort that requires you to work collaboratively.

The team may use one additional slide for the scenario and extra slides for the reference list if required. There should only be one reference list for the presentation.

Each team member can develop two slides to support the presentation which should be reflective of a cohesive effort when presented to the class.
The peer evaluation will contribute 5% to the student’s overall mark for this assignment. Each student will complete the evaluation form for their team members prior to delivery of the presentation

Scenario 1 A:
A new graduate has been on the ward for about a month. It is slowly becoming evident that the nurse is struggling with the transition to professional practice and the level of knowledge /skills being displayed is not reaching the expected level. In conjunction with the nurse educator, the preceptor and the nurse have developed a performance management plan designed to support the learning needs and to provide extra clinical support. Despite the plan, the nurse is progressing slowly and at times appears to be unable to get anything right. It has now come to light that the cultural background of the nurse is a factor in communication and the ability to accept the ward culture. A change in wards was made for the nurse to ensure cultural safety. Cultural diversity workshops were also encouraged for all staff and these were well attended by staff and nurse educators. The new ward had no preconceived ideas about the nurse, and they quickly became a part of the team. As the nurse’s confidence grew, so did the standards of practice. The nurse has now secured permanent employment and is a valued and respected member of the team.
