Sarah, a 45-year-old female and has several episodes of major depressive disorder during the last ten years. She was admitted as an involuntary patient to the mental health ward where you work, following an overdose of her prescribed medication, which required emergency medical intervention. Sarah works as a high-school teacher and is the head of her department, which she finds to be a very stressful role. She is married to Oscar and has three children under the age of fifteen. Sarah was recommenced on her anti- depressant, fluoxetine, two-days after admission to the ward. She has now been in hospital for three weeks and is starting to show some improvements in her mood and affect. Sarah has been reluctant to talk about the overdose of medication and has told her psychiatrist it was all a big mistake and that she did not mean to harm herself. Sarah is due to be discharged in one week and you are meeting with her to assess how she is feeling about her discharge from hospital and how you might be able to assist her in her preparations.
