Highlights
I strongly feel that nursing philosophy can be described as the nursing statement which clearly defines the nursing beliefs, values and ethical consideration (Meehan, 2018). These elements should be evaluated in relation with the patient care and treatment management.
Through my experience I have felt that concept of philosophy helps the nurses in expanding their bounds of thinking. There have been instances where after applying the concepts of nursing philosophy, I have been able to critically analyze and reflect upon my case scenarios. This has been helpful in shaping my behavioral response as well. Nursing philosophy concepts have been helpful for me as a professional in grooming my skills, within the bounds of my practice (Hensel, 2017).
As a nurse I have been subjected to multiple roles and duties, while being engaged in patient care. There is a dynamic shift in patient crowd with different wards, I have served in. The working of the system of these different wards vary from one another, in terms of protocols and standards. I have however, observed that with a strong value-driven approach safe clinical practice can be rendered to the patients (McCaffrey, 2017). Nursing philosophy has also contributed largely for my individual progress as well. It has taught me to be independent in making patient care related decisions and having an un-bias view point for the situation. It has driven me to be empathy-oriented health care professional, enabling me to connect with my patients on a personal level. It has also taught me the importance of advocacy for patient’s rights and dignity, to ensure improved healthcare outcomes can be attained from the same.
For my future clinical practices, I would like to groom myself in my care practices further. I would also like to lend a helping hand to the family members of the patients. I would also like to help the patients, by training them to develop coping strategies to deal with their illness. I also abide by the concept of team work and will help the patients by working in close coordination with my leaders. I strongly advocate the use of good communication with the patient and their family members. Proper communication channels ensure that all information is dully transferred through proper medium, leaving no scope for any error and confusion (Moon, 2018).
I believe that nursing is not only restricted to patient care, rather it is a broader terminology used to express on a collaborative approach for providing patient care. It is rather a multi-disciplinary approach for promoting health, preventing illness and improving on overall health status of the patient.
Nursing theories can come in very handy while managing an appropriate care plan for the patient. It also helps in regulating the framework as per the specific needs and healthcare requirements of the patient. This is an effective method for making sure that safe and secure clinical practices are rendered to the patients. Thus, this concept can be helpful for me as a nursing graduate on individual as well as professional front.
