Task Description
Aim: This assessment item is designed to provide the student with opportunities to develop critical thinking and communication skills by searching, critically appraising and synthesising relevant literature and presenting this information as a short written piece.
Instructions:
Students are required to submit one (1) critical issue for assessment during this course (note: this is in addition to the critical issues developed by students for PBL class discussion each week). The topic of the critical issue document is generated via the in-class PBL critical issues and will be selected by student consensus during PBL class.
The Critical Issue essay is to be submitted by 1pm the day prior to next PBL class (1pm Monday for Tuesday PBL classes and 1pm Wednesday for Thursday PBL classes).
Learning Objectives
After successfully completing this course you should be able to:
1. Clinical reasoning and practice
1.1 Relate a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and psychology to the practice problems.
1.2 Relate the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central nervous system and its relationship with the sensory and endocrine systems
1.3 Demonstrate a knowledge of the pathology of vascular lesions, haemorrhage and cerebral infarction
1.4 Demonstrate a knowledge of the pharmacological treatment related to hypertension and co- morbidities
1.5 Explore the strategies to assist an individual and their families to cope with change and loss in relation to neuroendocrine disease
1.6 Demonstrate insight into the role of the nurse in responding to the practice problems and recognise the role of other members of the health care team
1.7 Plan nursing care inclusive of different cultural groups and practice settings, explore potential responses, and propose care revisions as needed
1.8 Demonstrate a knowledge of the principles of pharmacokinetics and the clinical management of an overdose
1.9 Demonstrate a knowledge of the management and pharmacology treatment related to major mental health problems
