Scenario

Nurse Kumar posted patient details on the social media page (Face book page for Coronary care unit, Stepdown unit and Cath Lab). She mentioned all the details of the patient including the room number, diagnosis of the patient, procedure booked for the next day, blood results with elevated troponin and cholesterol level. Description of the electrocardiogram variation, therefore, needing urgent education in regards to an angiogram/angioplasty. Neither could she educate the patient nor could any morning shift staff help her due to understaffing and the heavy load of her patients during the shift. She further mentioned that the hospital management was not sure how to run the ward and how to retain their nursing staff as two of them had resigned in the month of July. She had worked as an associate charge nurse prior where she managed better with the right staffing mix. Nurse Kumar did not realise her workmates are ‘friends’ with other work colleagues and her comments would become viral. The comments quickly got passed to the charge nurse, the whole ward and beyond.
