Identify a client/patient/ service user either from your current practice or from placement with an identified health need. Explore this health need in relation to physical, psychological and social dimensions and how these impact their health. Discuss how you would holistically promote your client's health and wellbeing.

Introduction and rationale - Your introduction should identify everything that you are going to discuss in your essay. This gives a clear plan for the main part of the essay, known as the body of the essay. It enables the reader to understand your thinking which will be developed as the essay progresses and it helps you to ensure that everything that is important in the essay is included in a logical order. The introduction also should mention what your conclusion is.
Identify the client you are going to discuss and their health issue. Include information from the professional and academic literature around the topic.
Demonstrate awareness of the relationship between mental and physical health, and the rationale for adopting an integrated approach to health and wellbeing.
Describe the social context of healthcare and health behaviour. 
How does their physical condition impact on their psychological health and vice versa? 
Think about parity of esteem issues.

What social and cultural health beliefs might impact on their health and wellbeing?
Recognise factors contributing to inequalities in health outcomes and strategies to address these. What social determinants of health may lead to your client facing inequalities in health.

Consider inequalities in health e.g., socio economic status, housing, and environment, (un)employment, gender, sexuality, disability, and ethnicity.  
Identify the importance of health promotion and the role of the nursing associate in supporting people to lead healthier lives across the lifespan.   
Utilise effective communication skills and empower people to take an active role in their health and wellbeing, including those who may have mental health needs and/or learning disabilities or difficulties. You should define and discuss why health promotion/improvement is important and how it can address issue you have identified. Remember to link this to the role of nursing associates to improve public health (NMC Platform 2).
Consider what effective communication skills would need to be used to and empower your service user/ patient/client to take an active role in their health and wellbeing.
What health promotion activities would be useful when working with your client?
How could a nursing associate help to reduce inequalities/ prevent/ promote awareness of the health issue in the wider community? You can give an example of innovative practice.
 
(Remember to think beyond your present placement and think of what an acute and community based nursing associates could do? Think beyond just making referrals to someone else or giving a leaflet.

Identify the principles of collaboration, shared decision-making and enabling informed choice within their practice. Define collaborative working and shared decision making and consider reasons why this approach is recommended to promote health.
