Nursing Assessment Answer
Assignment Task:
The effective leadership is the foundation of effective healthcare organization and the good leadership and management qualities of the healthcare professionals is providing high productivity and quality of care (Sfantou et al 2017). Leadership refers to an individual’s behaviour to become a leader of a group in order to accomplish a goal that is common and it is an individual and organizational interaction that execute the collaborated efforts. There are many forms of leadership styles that exist in the healthcare settings but the ones I have observed during my second-year placement into the aged care is the transformational leadership style and shared leadership style. A good leader at the healthcare inspires the potential of coworkers in increasing their efficiency and also fulfils the needs to accomplish organization targets (Khan, Bukhari and Channar 2016).
The transformational leadership based on the moral grounds refers to the leadership style in which the leader raises the motivations and aspirations to a next level which is higher by enforcing higher value and ideal (Renjith, G and George 2015). This results in effective performance that goes beyond the expectations of the organization. In aged care, many nurses and medical professionals generally have low levels of motivation and they are not engaged in their roles according to their satisfaction. Being a transformational leader at the aged care increases the nurses’ commitment towards their role, they have a positive influence on the patient and perform better to give better organizational outcomes. Transformational leadership has a direct effect on the quality of care provided by the nurses.
The patients at the aged care require the high-quality care and are dependent on the staff for the majority of their everyday task so by adopting the transformational leadership quality, the nurses are able to communicate a better vision and are able to build genuine and trustworthy relationships with the patients (Smith 2019). Shared leadership refers to the assistance received by staff nurses to extend the influence of their decisions to affect the feeling of self-fulfilment, work environment,
practice and development of professional environment (Skarbaliene and Skarbalius 2018). This results in strengthening the continuous learning and enhanced relationships. It assists the nurses to act autonomously, advocates for the patients by solving their problems and they develop a shared vision to achieve the goals of the organization. The leadership styles in nursing help in achieving the goals of quality care in patients and patient and the nurses’ satisfaction are achieved.
