Highlights
Plagiarism is presenting somebody else’s work as your own. It includes copying information directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an individual effort; copying another student’s coursework; stealing coursework from another student and submitting it as your own work. Suspected plagiarism will be investigated and if found to have occurred will be dealt with according to the procedures set down by the College. Please see your Student Handbook for further details of what is/isn’t plagiarism.
Task 1 (LO: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, & M1)
Produce a report, explaining the roles of networks in different organizations. The report needs to cover all aspects of network approaches including:
a) Functional benefits of local area network in organizations (AC 1.1).
b) Evaluate Peer to peer and client-server networks (AC 1.2).
c) Analyse the changes that can be implemented in the development of LAN to meet the future networking demands (AC 1.3).
[Hint: For task 1c, you need to analyse the changes intopology, network architecture; VLANs; IP networks; wireless LANs, etc.]
Task 2 (LO 2.1,2.2,2.3 3.3, M2& D1)
PRD are often asked by clients to recommend new innovative solutions to some of the business problems they face. To show you have up-to-date networking knowledge,
a) List and analyse the hardware & software that can be used to design and implement a network (AC 2.1 & 2.2).
b) Evaluate the factors that relateto making adecisionon the different choice of hardware and software for the network design& performance (AC 2.3 & 3.3).
[Hint: For task 2a, you need to list the different software and hardware used to design a network like Hub, switches, routers, awireless access point (AP), cables & connectors, network card, firewalls, network monitoring tools, etc.
For task 2b, you can cover factors like network performance (bit rate/bandwidth, packet transport, network congestion, network availability); network maintenance; network security; external attacks, disaster recovery, growth, technical factor, etc]
Task 3 (LO :3.1,3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 M3, D2, D3)
To show that you are ready for employment after your work experience carries out a Network Design which should include:
a) Compare the Open System Interconnection (OSI) with Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network layers model covering the functions of each layer and the roles of main protocols used in TCP/ IP model (AC 3.1 & 4.2).
b) A detailed explanation of IEEE 802 networking standards & functions covering 802.3 (Ethernet) & 802.11 (Wireless). (AC 3.2)
c) Justify why Ethernet has become the preferred choice for link layer protocol (AC 4.1).
d) Analyze the factors that can affect network performance (AC 4.3).
[Hint: For task 3a, you need to compare the OSI and TCP/IP model covering the functionality of each layer and the use of protocols like TCP, UDP & IP.
For task 3b, you need to define and cover applications in relation to 802.11 (Wireless) standards and 802.3 (Ethernet) standards.
For task 3d, you need to analyse on factors like packet loss; packet corruption; propagation delay; traffic congestion; data integrity and security]
