Advanced Diploma in IT Systems Analysis - IT Assessment Answer
TASK:
PART 1
You may organise your team as you see fit and by the start of this unit you should have been able to identify, and agree on, a team leader. We hope you will select your own team leader, but if you do not we will nominate one.
The main and only formal responsibility of the team leader is to make the team submission in week seven. There are, however, related responsibilities in ensuring there is a report to submit, and in reaching team agreement on what is to be submitted.
We do not specifically reward individuals for taking on the team leader role, but we do record that they have done so and it is a worthwhile experience, one that particularly interests employers. We ask other team members to be sensitive to the difficulties of the team leader role: organising your own work so that it is completed in good time, and keeping your team leader and team
informed of difficulties or problems. Also, please remember that though we ask you to appoint a formal team leader, you are all likely to have the opportunity to demonstrate leadership in some aspect of the project.
There are ten activities in this assignment and you may decide between you to allocate responsibility for first drafts of an activity to a particular member. Ultimately, however, your report is a team report and will be judged on its consistency. Marks are awarded for the coherence of your deliverables.
A particular deliverable might be excellent in isolation but lose marks because it does not fit in with the other deliverables. The assignment should not be seen as a series of exercises that can be worked on in isolation. As you are using alternative models there are bound to be differences in detail (for example, your class diagram will not be the same as your entity relationship diagram) but they must be compatible and clearly relate to the same system.
You should communicate with your team using the electronic facilities provided and we urge you to keep in close and continuous contact throughout the unit. You need to keep in close contact with your team throughout this unit and be sure to log in several times a week and make your presence felt. We do not mind you using external facilities, for example Dropbox for document sharing, or Skype for meetings, but we ask you to maintain sufficient dialogue and documentation in the team
forum for your tutor to be able to monitor progress.
As you know from your initial study of team working in Unit 1, problems can arise if a member of the team fails to make an effective contribution. Although we do monitor activity, and may take action against an individual who does not engage with the team, we do not take this into account in marking the team submission. It is your responsibility to encourage members to contribute, and to implement an effective strategy if expected work is not delivered.
The team task is a preliminary analysis and design for a motor vehicle servicing company and represents 50% of the marks for unit 5.
The team project submission deadline is 2pm (British time) on 25 June 2019. This submission will represent the work of your whole team and is made by your team leader.
Part A – A post-project review of product and process
This document is aimed at the management and staff of your development company (not the client) and should summarise the process and product, including:
(i) an appraisal of the quality of the product (the team report) and the extent to which it met the requirements
(ii) an appraisal of the process (working as a team) including any problems faced and how they were addressed
(iii) lessons learned and recommendations.
We have provided a document, Post Project Review, giving some background information on this topic and you should read that document before writing your own review.
You are advised to make your report dispassionate and impersonal (it should not be an exercise in blaming individuals), but it is important to be frank and face up to problems.
Similarly although it may be appropriate to explain how you would have acted differently on some issue, had you not been constrained by team decisions, the report should be to highlight lessons to be learned by the organisation and not an exercise in self exoneration.
Part B – A reflection on your contribution to the team project
(i) The success of a team project depends on team members making contributions of different kinds and it is not always the biggest contributor that is the most important. Here we ask you to reflect on the ways in which you were able to make positive contributions to the project result.
(ii) Like all assignments in this course, the unit 5 project is part of the learning process and here we ask you to reflect on what you have learned from your involvement in the project, about the methodologies you have used, and about the skills required for working in a team. Give examples of any issues or situations during the project that illustrate your narrative.
