This report is based on a comprehensive assessment carried out on the Health and Safety Management System at the Qatar Europe Hospital. The Hospital offers a critical range of services necessary for the survival of the community in the Doha. Normally there is little thought of hospitals as work environments and consequently, inadequate analysis of the occupational hazards related to working in the hospital. The healthcare facility in the Qatar directly employs close to 4,000 healthcare professionals as well as associated personnel who oversee the running of hospital. Assessment of hospitals presents a unique challenge to health safety practitioners due to the wide spectrum of risks involved ranging from biological to physical and psychosocial. The assessment concludes that although the hospitals’ management is aware of the importance of occupational safety and has existing meausres in place to help minimize and eliminate the occurrence of risks, an external audit of these measures exposes systemic gaps which are not being bridged. In addition to the management’s inadequacy, the problem is further compounded by lack of compliance on the employee’s part which exposes lack of harmonization of functions. The assessment concludes that the lack of prioritization of employee safety is costing the hospital because of the high cost of compensation, the inconvenience resulting from absenteeism, high employee turnover rate and early retirement of its workers.

Aims
The management team at the Qatar Europe Hospital is aware of its responsibility towards prioritizing occupational health and safety towards all its employees. The hospital follows the following sets of policies to ensure that all its workers work in a safe environment

 To ensure that all hospital workers have access to safe appropriate equipment
 To ensure that there is equitable distribution of labour
 To ensure that all workers follow stipulated rules and regulations guiding hospital processes
 To ensure that all workers are duly informed of work safety regulations
 To ensure that safety plans are regularly reviewed and updated when necessary
This qualitative assessment looks into the aim of the hospital to see if it is indeed being followed.

Objectives
