You have been asked to manage the manufacture new vaccine to combat a new virus. The API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) has been approved by FDA, but a production line needs to be built for the vaccine. 

The machinery consists of a fermenter to make the vaccine and separators to purify the API, which then has to be spray dried and is delivered as a powder to be formulated. 

The equipment will cost $6m and will fit in the existing factory. Output will be 400kg per week on a single shift and sales price of the API will be $300/kg. Labour to run the plant will be 2 people and assume utilities will be $1000 per week. Rental of the floor space in the factory is charged at $3000/100sqm per month. 

1. Present the business case for the new machine. [10 marks]

2. Determine the WBS and present the timetable for the install. [10 marks]

b. Electrical installation and connection will take 6 weeks

c. Connection to finished packaging hoppers will take 2 weeks

d. Commissioning of plant will take 4 weeks

e. Approval of the product quality will be 3 weeks before release to market.

f. An operator for the new plant will take 4 weeks to train 

3. Outline the contractors you will need for the installation. And the safety risks and mitigations you might take [10 marks]
