TASK
• Choose a New Zealand based organisation, in an industry you are interested in.
• Provide a brief introduction to the organisation and the industry
• Using the product development process outlined in your textbook, design a new product and describe each step an Operations Manager would need to take to complete the process.
• Design the Operations for this new product. Choose a suitable production method and production layout for your new product, present a simple graphic of your layout and justify your choices.
• Explain which forecasting techniques you would use to predict future production volumes for your new facility.
• Calculate the capacity required for your new production facility and which strategies you are planning to use to influence demand on your new facility.
• Identify and describe at least 4 factors influencing the location of your production facility and use these and a weighted factor approach to identify a suitable location in Auckland
• Outline the project management steps that are required for the establishment of a new production facility, including a Gantt chart and Success Criteria.
• Explain how inventory and materials management will look like for your new facility.
• Justify the employment of a specialist project manager for this project
• Submit a written report via TurnItIn. One submission per group. And present a succinct summary of the above in class (presentation). All group members need to present and receive individual marks for their presentation.
• Provide feedback to your peers at the end of each class. Evaluate their performance in the group. Peer evaluation will be completed on Teammates, an online evaluation tool. Make sure you address the feedback to your peer, not at the lecturer.
