A. Design an optimal PMU placement (OPP) scheme for complete observability for the following test systems:

  • IEEE-30 bus system
  • IEEE-118 bus system
  • IEEE-300 bus system
  • Polish-2383 bus system

B. Perform Linear State Estimation (LSE) with the obtained PMUS for the IEEE-118 bus system.

Objectives to be considered are as follows:

1. Prove that your OPP solution satisfies both topological as well as numerical observability constraints for all four test systems.

2. Show how OPP results differ when effects of zero-injection buses are considered for the 118-bus system. 

3. Implement a multi-stage PMU placement logic (you are free to choose the number of stages) for the 118-bus system. How can you ensure similar number of PMUs are placed in every stage?

4. Bonus Objective: Compare your OPP results when you choose substation disruption minimization as an objective instead of device minimization for all four test systems. 
When you give special emphasis to ZIBS, the number of PMUS required should decrease.

Additionally, consider the following points:

1. Mention specifically in your report how you interpret the term "optimal" in your solution.

2. You are free to add more objectives to your scheme.

3. You are free to use any optimization technique. In-case you choose a (Meta)-heuristic technique, you are expected to provide information (using big 'O' notation) about the "optimality gap".
