Assignment Task

This assignment focuses on the development of technological solutions that can respond to the project's brief while optimizing the thermal and environmental performances of a building.

The objective of this assignment is to calculate the R-value, Global Warming Potential (GWP), and embodied energy (EE) of a given wall using the eopic database or a similar reliable source. Additionally, students will modify the wall components to meet new requirements outlined in a secondary brief.

• You will receive a draft of a technological component that includes rough dimensions and materials
• You will draw the component in a scaled and exploded axo (hand-drawn) to include the fixings, structures and those layers and components necessary for construction purposes
• You will develop a clear material spec document, which includes type (not brand), thickness, conductivity, specific heat and partial R value. For this step you will use a trusted database (please add the reference) to

• You will calculate the R-value, embodied carbon and embodied energy of the component
• Please clearly outline the step-by-step process used for the calculation, including details about the partial values, the functional units, the overall quantity and all the necessary information to explain and justify your process

Step 3

• You will receive a secondary brief outlining a new requirement for the technological component
• You have to re-design and modify the component to meet the new requirements - please justify your reasoning
• Calculate again R-value, GWP and EE

Step 4

To attain a High Distinction, you must include references to relevant building codes and briefly explain how you would modify the component to ensure compliance.
