Assessment Brief

Senior management has asked you to redesign an existing product/service for the company you work for. Creativity is a key factor. You need to staff a new team of 5 individuals, and you have a pool of 20 to choose from. For each person you have information about the following characteristics: intelligence, work experience, conscientiousness, agreeableness, neuroticism, openness to experience, and extraversion. After several months, the team chosen has worked successfully on the redesigned product/service, but the company is facing pressure so senior management has asked you and your team to sustain growth at any cost. This means you and your team have to take an unethical decision (for example dumping untreated chemicals, communicate false test results/statistics…). You have to face the dilemma of duty to others vs duty to society. To complete this project, the following steps are required:

a) Select a company and a project you have to work on

b) Select the perfect team (to achieve the management goals) and describe what it would look like? (What characteristics would you choose for each of the five members: A lot of work experience or a little, high, moderate, or low conscientiousness and so on. Why?)

 

c) How, if at all, would your choices change if the task required the team to make quick decisions that were not necessarily the most creative? Why? (Use the same criteria as in question b)

d) Do you think you could be convinced to let your organization behave in an unethical way? Why or why not?

e) Why might a Top Management team be more likely to make unethical decisions as a team rather than individually? Please explain.
