Focus and aim of the assignment:
The focus of this assignment is to integrate and apply the material covered in the OB module. The aim is to provide students with the opportunity to apply their learning in a practical and useful manner to their organisational environment while practising some of the concepts of OB. The assignment also aims at improving both the analytical and business writing skills of students, as it applies to OB.
The learning objectives form the basis of the assignment. Students have to be able to display their ability to apply and argue at a management level for each of the learning objectives of the course.
Assessment instruction:
Your current organisation has made contact with you and requested you to analyse the human behaviour in the organisation, as seen through Organisational Behaviour practices and principles, in order to improve organisational effectiveness.
From the theoretical background provided in the textbook as well as the classes of the OB module, choose any four (4) of the areas provided below and analyse what is happening in your organisation in relation to those 4 areas:
1. Accepting and dealing with emotions and personality on an individual level
2. Motivation, engagement and performance improvement
3. Job satisfaction and selection
4. Employment relations
5. Dealing with large scale change
6. Organisational structure
7. Organisation culture
For each of the four areas that you have selected from the list above:
A. Identify, define and describe Organisational Behaviour practices that the organisation displays in terms of the selected area. Add data or evidence from the organisation but remember to reference when doing so.
B. At the hand of relevant theory, critically reflect and assess to what extent the current OB practices of the organisation are serving the goals and strategy of the organisation in relation to the area selected.
C. Based on your assessment and at the hand of relevant theory, make substantiated and motivated recommendations as to what the organisation should do about the area that you selected.
Assessment guidelines:
1. This is an individual assignment and every student has to work on their own.
2. You should base your analysis on an actual organisation by providing data on the issues that you are discussing. If you are not currently employed then aim to obtain data/information of an organisation that you used to work at or find information on the internet. Remember to reference sources of data appropriately.
3. Your reflections and assessments should be grounded in the theoretical material dealt with in the OB module and textbook. You should also seek additional articles to substantiate the points that you are making. An assignment without references to theory is not sufficient to pass the module. Remember to reference appropriately.
4. Write your assignment in a report format to the CEO. This is to be a professional document that you should be able to send to the CEO for information and action.
