About the TMA
Although people are involved in and contribute to all aspects of the strategy process, orthodox strategic management theory tends to overlook their presence. However, studying how strategy actually happens makes people hard to ignore. This reading aims to explore the human side of strategy. It will examine the role of senior managers, those often thought of as strategists, the impact and strategising activities of middle managers, often neglected in classical approaches, and how these two groups may interact. This reading will also expand the understanding of just who is a strategist outside of the organisation and give some thought to the role and influence of strategy consultants.

1.      Based on your reading of this section, analyse and discuss on what you consider to be the potential strengths and limitations of middle managers as active strategists. Reflect and comment on the subheading ‘TMT and MM Role Behavior’. Annotate your own version of the diagram, ideally with examples from your own experience or reading. (800 words, 30 marks).
2.      Using Alex Wright (2008) research agenda that proposes six questions related to strategy consultants and their effect on the organisations in which they work discuss on how consultants impact on organisational strategy? (1200 words, 60 marks).
