Reflection Reports
The reflection report is based on your weekly experiences during 5 different site visits throughout the duration of the course. Students are required to conduct 5 site inspections of 5 different types of attractions (ie. Amusement park, museums, natural attractions, eco or adventure attractions etc).
Students are encouraged to visit the attractions in person (if possible) while considering their own health and safety by following the necessary COVID-19 protocols. Students are also encouraged to meet/interview staff members during their visits while maintaining social distance and adhering to the necessary health and safety measures. Alternatively, students may conduct their research of 5 attractions online and schedule virtual meetings with staff members to enhance their learning of the organization’s daily operational functions.
Your reflection should be based on the following criteria; however please refer to the grading rubric for the detailed quality descriptors and marks breakdown
Overall explanation of your analysis and exploration for each of the local attractions while conducting the site inspection; What is your understanding of how each organization is managed, marketed and offered as a tourism product?
Observation of the company's daily operational tasks and departmental functions as well as any challenges and management issues surrounding them.
Overall guest experience based on what you observed during each visit. What were your impressions of what worked well and what needed enhancement. Are there any guest reviews on tripadvisor? Please explain!
Practices you will incorporate in your professional career. Please be specific!
Discuss the various managerial styles and company cultures for each organization; Explain the skills required by each organization to succeed in a competitive environment
It is not acceptable for you to give a chronological account of your experiences (ie. this is not a diary). During each one of your weekly reflections, you will need to reflect upon what/how your observations enhanced your learning/view as a future “tourism professional”. Consider this as your first “business trip” where you are gaining industry experience and that one day you may put into actual practice!
