During P21427 module, you will work through 4 laboratory sheets. Those exercises will follow the topics covered in the lectures. New handout will be uploaded on the P21427 Moodle unit website as the related topics are covered in the course.
- Laboratories 1 and 2 will be used to improve your knowledge of Matlab and demonstrate DSP topics and theory covered in the first half of the module, mainly related to Fast Fourier Transform algorithms and fundamentals of random signals. These two labs will not be marked and do not need to be submitted.
- Laboratories 3 and 4 will be marked. You will have to demonstrate your code to a module lecturer/laboratory supervisor in allocated 15 minutes slot (scheduled in the week 17/05-21/05) and submit your report before the stated deadline.

You are encouraged to write your findings and comments on the obtained results in the logbooks during all of the laboratory sessions, but you only need to submit Matlab code related to last two laboratory exercises - Lab 3 and Lab 4. You should also submit any other work required by particular tasks (e.g. equation derivations etc.)

Matlab code: Your code should be easily executable, well commented and clear. You should submit two Matlab scripts – one for each laboratory sheet. Each script should be divided in cells (using double comment “%%”) and each cell should contain code relevant to one task from the laboratory sheet. All generated plots should be clearly labelled (e.g. axis labels and titles, units if applicable) and code well commented. Use of your own Matlab functions is encouraged where applicable or indicated in the laboratory sheet but should not be excessive. Matlab built-in DSP functions are permitted only when indicated in the handout. Your code should be efficient, i.e. “vectorised” where possible. “for” loops and “if” statements should be avoided as much as possible.
