Purpose

Task details

Your task is to prepare a short (500 words) summary of an organ system, including:

  • the major components of the organ system and a basic summary of their structure and function

  • a disease/condition that affects the organ system (or one of the organs within the organ system), with an emphasis on explaining how the normal function of the physiological system is disturbed by the disease.

Instructions

  • Select an organ system from the list of options and research that organ system using scientific literature.

  • Briefly discuss the organ system's structure (particularly ways in which its structure is specialised to compliment its function)

  • Briefly discuss the organ system's function, then choose one physiological process that occurs in that organ system and explain it in detail.

  • Choose a disease/condition that affects the organ system and discuss how that disease disrupts the normal structure/function of the system.

  • We will work with you in the workshops to discuss this task in more detail.

  • This assessment is worth 15% of your final mark for the subject.
