ASSIGNMENT 2

This assignment allows you to demonstrate that you can teach what you know about a passage, and use your passages in prayer, using two recognised approaches.

Part A: Professional development session. 

Select one approach used to teach sacred texts and one approach used to pray with Scripture.

Prepare a professional development session for teachers outlining the theoretical underpinnings of both selected approaches, the component parts (how the approach is structured), and how it would or would not fit into your Diocesan model of Religious Education.

Your professional development session may be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, a website, an information booklet, or another presentation negotiated with the lecturer.

Part B: Scripture process, including prayer.

Develop a sequence of lessons MODELLING the teaching approach described in your PD session. The Scripture passage you use is the one you wrote about in your essay. The two outcomes of the sequence should be stated: 

1. What students will learn about the passage,
2. What opportunities will they be provided with to interpret the passage for:

a). the original audience the passage was written for

b). themselves

The sequence should explicitly include and reference information about the passage discussed in your research. It may, but does not have to, include the two strategies from Task 1.

It should also include an example of praying with scripture using the prayer style you chose and prepared for your PD.
