Patient profile.
Mr Peter Cahn is an 80-year-old male who suffered a stroke 12 months ago. As he has right sided weakness, he moved into an aged care facility after his stoke. Today he has been admitted to the respiratory ward with a diagnosis of Streptococcal group A pneumonia. He has a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, heart rate of 105 bpm irregular, respiratory rate of 24, blood pressure of 140/90mmHg. His Sa02 is 86% on room air and 97% on 4L oxygen via nasal prongs.
This assessment requires you to critically appraise the current best evidence for nursing care of the older person with pneumonia.
