Highlights
Tonsilitis is an infection and inflammation of the tonsils, caused by viruses or bacteria, with the most common causing bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes (Abu Bakar et al., 2018). While analyzing the pathophysiology of Tonsilitis, it is determined that viral infection is also one of the primary causes of this disease along with bacteria. Viruses such as the common flu can give rise to cause infection of the tonsils, resulting in inflammation (Slouka et al., 2021). The tonsils are the first line of defense against the pathogens, which enter into the body of individuals through nose and mouth. When a pathogen is detected, immune system triggers an inflammatory response to fight the infection.
